The Faculty of Engineering and Architectural Science pushes the boundaries of engineering and architectural design, fostering a culture where curiosity drives groundbreaking discoveries. The Capstone Awards celebrate the exceptional innovation and dedication demonstrated by our students in their final-year capstone projects. These awards recognize the remarkable contributions our students make through their creativity and commitment to excellence in engineering and architectural science.

Additional Earnings: Membership with Innovation Boost Zone (after you graduate, you can access co-working space, resources, mentorship, and more that will help you continue to develop your capstone idea, helping you move the idea forward and transforming it into a side-hustle, startup, or personal research project). | | How to Apply | Application Process

  2. Students must complete and upload the submission requirements (listed below) prior to the award deadline on **April 7, 2025

Submission Requirements:**

  1. 1-2 minute pitch video
  2. 1 page executive summary

April 2025: Deadline to Submit Application - April 7, 2025 Award Ceremony - April 25, 2025 | | Terms and Conditions | • Eligible teams must consist of FEAS students in their final year of undergraduate studies at TMU • Eligible teams must be present and participating in the 2025 FEAS Capstone day • Eligible teams may choose to compete for both awards, but are not eligible to win both • $5,000 funds will be distributed equally across all members of the team • All members of the team must confirm their members contribution to the project (a follow up email will request this after application submission) • Funds will be distributed as cheque payments • Funds are issued as awards and thus are deemed income resulting in T4As |

Problem Understanding The applicant clearly defines the specific problem or market opportunity their research addresses.
The applicant explains in detail the root cause(s) of the problem (not just the symptoms, and the severity of the problem).
Solution Effectiveness The applicant clearly describes how the envisioned solution addresses the root cause of the problem.
The applicant provides evidence or reasoning that supports the feasibility and effectiveness of the solution.
Market The applicant outlines potential industries or sectors that could adopt their research and defines the sector size.
Additionally, the applicant defines the users who benefit best from the innovation
Novelty & Unique Value Proposition Impact The applicant clearly describes their research and highlights how it is novel and innovative. Additionally, the applicant explains the distinct and meaningful benefits of their solution and how it provides tangible improvements and social impact over existing approaches (competitive advantage over other solutions in the market).
